Cowgirls Head To The Big Easy For A Southland Game Against UNO

LAKE CHARLES--  The McNeese women's basketball teams next two opponents will be the same opponent in the University of New Orleans. McNeese will travel to New Orleans Saturday for a 4 p.m. game at the Lakefront Arena then will turn around and play the same UNO team at the Lake Charles Civic Center next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
 
New Orleans (6-11, 3-5 SLC) leads the all-time series 14-11. Last season both teams won on their own court with the Cowgirls winning 82-58 in Lake Charles and UNO winning 90-86 in triple overtime in New Orleans.
 
McNeese (13-7, 5-3 SLC) is currently in third place in the Southland Conference standings behind Abilene Christian and Central Arkansas. McNeese is coming off its second most points of the season in a 96-79 home win over Southeastern La. The Cowgirls placed four players in double figures with senior Jayln Johnson and sophomore Frederica Haywood recording double doubles. Johnson scored a season high 31 points and tied her season high with 12 assists. Haywood tied her career high with 15 points and tied her season high with 17 rebounds.
 
Johnson will lead the Cowgirls into the game averaging 14.9 ppg. overall and 20.1 in SLC games alone. Johnson also leads McNeese with a 91.7 free throw percent, 5.3 assists per game, and 1.5 steals per game. Johnson leads the conference with 6.6 assists and ranks fourth in scoring in conference games only. 
 
Baggett is second on the team in scoring (13.5) and has scored 20 or more points in three of the last four games. Baggett is third on the team with a 39.3 three-point field goal percent.
 
Amber Donnes, who sparked the Cowgirls in the win over Southeastern La., is third on in scoring with 10.0 ppg. and is second on the team with a 40.0 three-point field goal percent.
 
Haywood, who continues to make her presence on the glass, leads McNeese with 8.8 rpg. and is second in the league with 12.1 rpg. in conference games only.
 
UNO is coming off a 62-55 home win over Nicholls that snapped a three game losing streak. The Privateers are led in scoring by Randi Brown's 16.5 ppg. Shania Woods leads the team with 4.8 rpg. and Yasmin Taylor is pulling down 4.6 per contest.
