Cowgirls Head To the Big Easy To Take On Tulane

LAKE CHARLES—Semester finals don't start until Friday but the McNeese women's basketball team will have a test on Wednesday night with a 7 p.m. game at Tulane.

McNeese (4-1) will not only take to the road for its first road game of the season Wednesday but six of the Cowgirls' next seven games will be on the road including two games at the Patrick Harrington Tournament in Niceville, Florida (Dec. 19-20). McNeese will also travel to Texas Christian, Louisiana-Monroe and will begin Southland Conference action on the road at Northwestern State on Dec. 31.

The only chance for fans to see the Cowgirls in the month of December will be this Sunday against Louisiana Tech. Fans are asked to bring an new unwrapped toy for our Toys 4 Tots collection.

The Cowgirls are off to a good start under first year head coach Kacie Cryer's helm but the competition will begin to get a little tougher come Wednesday. During the five game home stand, the Cowgirls played only one Division I school and that was by design for several reasons.

McNeese will enter the game leading the nation in rebounds with 51.6 per game, seventh in the nation in offensive rebounds (19.0) and eighth in defensive rebounds per game (32.0).  Three players are averaging in double figures and are led by senior Victoria Rachal's 16.8 ppg. Junior Mercedes Rogers is averaging a double double with 11.4 ppg. and 10.2 rpg. and freshman Caitlin Davis is averaging 10.2 ppg. and is dishing out 4.0 apg.

Tulane (4-1) has dominated McNeese in recent years, having won the last eight games and 10 of the last 12 between the two teams. The last Cowgirl victory over the Green Wave came in 1993 in Lake Charles. McNeese's last win at Tulane was in 1986.

The Green Wave is coming off a 75-66 win over UTSA in the championship game of the UTSA Classic. Their only loss thus far this season has been to Mississippi State.

Morgan Kolby and Leslie Vorpahl lead the Wave in scoring with 16.8 and 10.0 ppg., respectively. Meredith Schulte and Tene Thompson leads Tulane with 4.8 rpg.
