CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas—McNeese volleyball knew it would have to play its best match of the season if the Cowgirls wanted to hand first place Texas A&M-Corpus Christi its first conference loss of the season, unfortunately it was the Islanders who played their best match of the season in a 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-13) win to clinch their second consecutive Southland Conference regular season title here Thursday night.
 
McNeese (9-19, 5-8 SLC) struggled with its passing and couldn't find an answer for Brittany Gilpin and Kate Klepetka. Gilpin led all players with a match-high 11 kills and Klepetka dished out 29 assists and found an empty spaces on the court for three service aces, all in the first set. The Islanders' (18-7, 13-0 SLC) offense ended the match with a .324 hitting percent while the Cowgirls hit .088.
 
Junior 
Rae Myers led the Cowgirls on offense with seven kills and a .300 hitting percent. Myers committed only one error in 17 attempts. 
Alexandra Aguilera was credited with 17 assists and 
Bridget Justis picked up 19 digs.
 
The Cowgirls will travel to San Antonio, Texas for an 11 a.m. match at Incarnate Word.
