BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Oliver James and
John Lemke took their place on the medal stand here Tuesday on the final day of the 2016 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, James placing third in the mile run while Lemke finished third in the triple jump.

In the final team rankings, the Cowboys placed seventh with 32 points while the Cowgirls finished eighth with 24 total points.

Sam Houston State won both team titles while Southeastern Louisiana was followed by Stephen F. Austin in the men's standings and Abilene Christian was followed by SFA in the women's.

James picked up the bronze medal in the mile run after clocking 4:13.59. He also finished 10
th in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:30.92.
Luke Betts, who was originally disqualified from Monday's preliminaries but was later reinstated, scored some points by finishing seventh in the mile race with a time of 4:16.95.

Lemke, who was a silver medalist in the triple jump at the outdoor championships last season and just missed out on a bronze at last year's indoor meet, got the medal this year with a third place finish jump of 49-04.25.

Other scorers for the Cowboys had
Nathan Jones finishing seventh in the 3,000-meters with a time of 8:27.60 and
Tyler Smith placing eighth in the 60-meter dash with a 6.99 clocking.

On the women's side,
Grace McKenzie just missed out on reaching the medal stand in the women's high jump event after she cleared 5-5 to finish in a tie for fourth place.

Other scorers for the Cowgirls had
RaKira Turner placing fifth in the shot put (46-11),
Danielle Epps finishing fifth in the 60-meter dash (7.65) and eighth in the 200 meters (25.06),
Gemma Bridge seventh in the 3,000-meters (10:00.77), and
Rhian Dawes placing eighth in the mile run (5:05.29).
