Tamario Lattin named track & field assistant coach

LAKE CHARLES - McNeese track and field head coach Brendon Gilroy has announced the addition of Tamario Lattin to his coaching staff.

Lattin comes to McNeese after spending the last five seasons as an assistant coach at Grambling where he coached nine NCAA East Region qualifiers and one NCAA National qualifier.

"Tamario is one of the top up-and-coming coaches in the sport of track and field," said Gilroy. "After spending the last few years at Grambling overseeing the jumps and assisting in the sprints, we are excited to have him join our staff and assist guiding the next generation of Cowboys and Cowgirls track and field members."

At McNeese, Lattin will train athletes in the same capacity in the jumps and sprints.

"Coach Lattin was a valuable asset to our program," said former Grambling head coach and current University of Maryland Eastern Shore Director of Track and Field Lamonte Vaughn. "I consider him one of the best young coaches in the country. His ability to recruit, produce, and lead his event group help our program stand out at Grambling. He will be a great addition to the McNeese family and community."

A Gloster, Louisiana native, Lattin earned his bachelor's degree from Louisiana Tech before gaining his master's degree from Grambling.

As a competitor at Louisiana Tech, he finished second at the 2017 Conference USA Indoor Championships in both the high jump and long jump, was a 2017 NCAA East Regional qualifier in the high jump, the 2018 Conference USA Indoor long jump champion, and placed third in the high jump in the 2019 league indoor championships.

He began his coaching career in 2020 at Wheeling University in West Virginia.
