LAKE CHARLES—The McNeese women's basketball team will return to Burton Coliseum Wednesday to host second place Central Arkansas in its Play 4 Kay game. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. McNeese has won the last three meetings by a combined 10 points.
The Play 4 Kay initiative is an opportunity for a nation of coaches to raise awareness and funds for women's cancer research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. Special pink wristbands will be given to cancer survivors and cancer awareness wristbands will be given to fans.
The Cowgirls will show their support by wearing pink t-shirts during warm-up and will wear headbands and pink shoe laces as well. Fans are asked to show their support by wearing pink to the game. Ethel Precht will serve as the Cowgirl's guest coach.
McNeese (16-9, 9-5 SLC) is currently tied for third place in the league standings with Northwestern State after falling to the Lady Demons 85-64 last Saturday. The Cowgirls will play three of their five remaining regular season games at home where they are 10-1 this season.
Jayln Johnson and
Allison Baggett continue to lead the Cowgirls in scoring with 15.2 and 13.9 ppg., respectively. Johnson also leads the Cowgirls and the SLC in free throw percent and assists. The Jennings native is 10 assists away from becoming the Cowgirls' career leader. She has 521 career assists entering Wednesday's game. Baggett needs eight points to move into third place in career scoring. She enters the game with 1,667 points. Sophomores
Frederica Haywood, who is coming off a double double (14 pts., 13 reb.) against NW State leads McNeese in rebounding with 8.3 per game.
Jasmyn Carswell is averaging 6.2 per game.
Central Arkansas (20-3, 11-2 SLC) is second in the league behind Abilene Christian (20-3, 11-1). ACU is not eligible for postseason play.
The Sugar Bears are coming off a 76-57 road win at Incarnate Word Saturday after falling 60-56 at home against Northwestern State. UCA has the league's top defense, giving up 54.2 points a game and have a conference best 79.6 free throw shooting percent.
Maggie Proffit leads UCA in scoring with 14.8 ppg. and is the only double figure scorer. Proffit also has a 91.2 free throw percent which also ranks her third in the SLC.
The McNeese baseball and softball teams will be on hand from 5:30 p.m.- 6 p.m. to autograph their 2016 schedule posters.
