LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's tennis team will be back in action over the weekend with a non-conference tilt against UTSA Saturday at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
Following the match, the Cowgirls will provide a free clinic to all youth in attendance. The McNeese netters will give lessons and teach the kids about the basics of the game of tennis.
The Cowgirls (7-4) opened up Southland Conference play over the weekend with a 6-1 victory over Central Arkansas. McNeese is 2-1 at home this season with its last win coming against Prairie View A&M.
Sophomore
Hannah Brett leads the team with eight singles wins this season while junior
Julia Kral has won five consecutive matches. In doubles, the tandem of
Sarah Jurakova and
Giovanna Fioretti are 3-1 on the year and have won their last two matches.
Overall, the Cowgirls are a combined 45-20 in singles matches in 2016 and 14-10 in doubles.
UTSA (3-5) has lost its last four matches dating back to Feb. 3. The Roadrunners have struggled on the road this season having won just one match in five attempts. M. Rosell Canudas leads UTSA at the top singles pot with a 5-2 record while Jacobea Junger is 6-1 on the season form the No. 2 spot.
Following Saturday's action, the Cowgirls will resume league play with a trip to Thibodaux where they face Nicholls on Tuesday, March 1 at 11 a.m.
