LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's tennis team picked up its third consecutive victory Saturday afternoon after taking down UTSA, 5-2, at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
 
The Cowgirls improved to 8-4 on the year while dipping the Roadrunners to a 4-6 record. McNeese now holds a 3-1 mark on its home courts this season.
 
Once again, the Pokes had to climb out of an early deficit following UTSA taking the doubles point. The Roadrunners took Courts 1 and 2 while the team of Charoline Erlandsson and Julia Kral took a 6-4 win over UTSA's Lina Hallgren and Charlene Tiwari.
 
In singles, the Cowgirls wasted no time taking back the advantange as Hannah Brett started off with a sweep over Nicole Karaklis 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 spot and tied the match.
 
Sophomore netter Sarah Jurakova helped give McNeese the lead with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat on Court 4 while junior Julia Kral upped the lead with  6-3, 6-0 win over Alena Shichkova in the third spot.
 
Senior Klaudia Gawlik clinched her 59th career singles win and the match point in the top spot as she defeated M. Rosell Canudas, 6-4, 6-3. Gawlik now owns a career .855 winning percentage in singles matches.
 
UTSA's Hallgren retired in the sixth spot giving Erlandsson the victor while freshman Giovanna Fioretti lost her match in the No. 2 spot.
 
McNeese returns to conference action on Tuesday, March 1 when it travels to Thibodaux for a match with Nicholls. First serve is slated for 11 a.m.
