Women's Basketball Makes Return Trip To Lamar Wednesday

LAKE CHARLES—Fresh off its 92-84 come from behind home win against Lamar last Saturday, the McNeese women's basketball team will make the short trip to Beaumont, Texas four days later to face the Lady Cardinals at 7 p.m. Wednesday night at the Montagne Center. The game can be seen on ESPN3.

With two weeks remaining in the regular season, McNeese (17-10, 9-6 SLC) will enter the game in fourth place in the conference standings, excluding Abilene Christian who is currently atop the standings with a 13-1 conference record but are ineligible for postseason play. The Cowgirls will conclude their home schedule this Saturday against Nicholls before traveling to Central Arkansas for the regular season finally on March 5.

McNeese will be looking for its second win over Lamar after erasing an 18-point third quarter deficit in Lake Charles last Saturday. The Cowgirls' bench played a huge part in that comeback by outscoring Lamar 40-3 in the game, with 37 of those points coming in the second half alone.

Seniors Jayln Johnson and Allison Baggett along with junior Amber Donnes are all averaging in double figures. Johnson not only leads the team in scoring (15.3 ppg.), she also leads with 5.1 assists and is six away from becoming McNeese's career lead. She also leads McNeese with 1.4 steals and ranks third in the nation with a 90.9 free throw shooting percent. She is coming off an 11-point game on Saturday.

Baggett is averaging 13.4 ppg. and is third on the team with a 33.9 three-point field goal shooting percent. Donnes is averaging 10.1 ppg. and leads the team with a 38.9 three-point field goal percent. Donnes scored 17 against Lamar Saturday and was 3 of 5 from behind the arc.

Frederica Haywood and Jasmyn Carswell have led the Cowgirls in rebounds all season long but sophomore Mercedes Rogers asserted herself on the boards Saturday with a career high 13 rebounds. Haywood leads the team with 8.4 rpg. and Carswell has a 6.2 average.

Lamar (10-16, 6-9 SLC) is 9-4 at home this season and has lost their last three games. The Lady Cardinals are led in scoring by Addesha Collins' 15.7 ppg. and Kiara Desamours who is averaging 10.6 ppg. Desamours also leads Lamar with 7.1 rpg.
