LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's tennis squad will be back in action Friday with a non-conference tilt on the road at ULM with first serve set for 11:45 a.m.
The Cowgirls (4-2) are coming off a successful week with victories against UL-Lafayette and Middle Tennessee while falling short to Southern Methodist. All four of McNeese's wins have come against programs that are members of mid-major conferences. Baylor and SMU are the only blemishes on the Pokes' schedule.
Freshman
Giovanna Fioretti was honored for the second time this season as Southland Conference Player of the Week. She and sophomore
Sarah Jurakova have wrapped up all three weekly honors from the league office.
Fioretti leads all singles participants with five victories while Jurakova, senior
Klaudia Gawlik and sophomore
Hannah Brett follow closely with four.
ULM (1-0) opened its season with a 4-3 victory over Nicholls on Monday. The Warhawks look to lean on the leadership of Petra Horakova and Caitlin Herb, the only non-freshmen on the roster.
ULM leads the all-time series against McNeese, 21-7, while the Cowgirls have topped the Warhawks in the last two seasons. McNeese scored a 5-2 victory at ULM last season.
Following Friday's action, the Cowgirls will return home for a set of matches on Sunday. The morning will start with an exhibition match against Tyler Junior College at 10 a.m. followed by a contest against Prairie View A&M at 2 o'clock.
