LAKE CHARLES – Despite an early advantage in both doubles and in singles play, the McNeese women's tennis team was unable to mount an attack and fell to ULM on the road, 4-3, Friday afternoon.
 
The Cowgirls dropped to 4-3 on the season and lost only their second contest over five attempts. The Warhawks improved to a 2-0 overall mark on the year.
 
McNeese took the first lead of the match after winning the doubles point. The team of Klaudia Gawlik and Hannah Brett took the decision in Court 2 while Julia Kral and Charoline Errlandson clinched the point from the third spot.
 
In singles play, Gawlik upped the Cowgirls' lead to a 2-0 advantage following a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the No. 1 spot over Pauline Van Herck. Gawlik now stands tied for third all-time in singles victories.
 
From there, it was all ULM as the Warhawks clinched three consecutive points on Courts 4-6 and took a 3-2 lead over McNeese. Brett, Erlandsson and Vivien Borbely all lost in just two sets.
 
Kral tied the match at 3-3 with a 6-3, 6-4 victory in the No. 2 spot but it was on Court Three that the match was decided as Tiffany Mylonas defeated Sarah Jurakova in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 for the match point.   
 
McNeese will return home for a doubleheader on Sunday beginning with an exhibition match against Tyler Junior College at 10 a.m. and will follow with a contest against Prairie View A&M at 2 o'clock.
