LAKE CHARLES – A two-week layoff from action on the courts did not affect the McNeese women's tennis squad one bit as the Cowgirls rolled to their seventh consecutive win of the season after dominating Incarnate Word, 6-1, Sunday morning.
 
With the win, McNeese (12-4, 5-0 SLC) remained just one of two teams to remain perfect in Southland Conference play while the Cowgirls improved their combined singles record to a league-best 70-25 mark.
 
McNeese did what it does best by taking the first lead of the match by gaining the doubles point. The No. 1 doubles combo of Sarah Jurakova and Giovanna Fioretti defeated the team of Rachel Sadiq and Matea Zemunik, 6-1, while Hannah Brett and Vivien Borbely secured the point with a 6-3 decision over Antea Dedic and Clarisa Salinas.
 
Fioretti continued her dominant effort with a 6-1, 6-3 win from the top spot over Sadiq to give McNeese a 2-0 lead in the match while Brett upped the lead to three over the Cardinals with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Sarah Savedra.
 
It was the last spot that decided the winning point as Anastaija Trubich, in just her second singles match of the season, downed Salinas, 6-1, 6-1, to help lock up her team's seventh straight win.
 
UIW picked up its only point of the session as Zemunik defeated Julia Kral in the second spot 6-1, 6-3.
 
Jurakova and Charoline Erlandsson finished off the match with wins on their respective courts.
 
Jurakova won on Court Three over Taryn Strahl 6-2, 6-2 while Erlandsson survived a three-set match with a 6-0, 4-6, 10-4 win over Maria Batchinsky.
 
McNeese will now prepare for its biggest match of the season as the Cowgirls set their sights on undefeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The match, set for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22 at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center, will have big implications regarding the regular season title as both squads are currently perfect in league play.
