Tennis Heads West For SLC Contest With ACU Friday

LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's tennis team returns to Southland Conference action on Friday as the Cowgirls make the trip west for a date with Abilene Christian at the Eager Tennis Pavilion.

The Cowgirls (12-5, 5-1 SLC) will look to bounce back from a tough 4-3 loss at the hands of an undefeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi team on Tuesday. McNeese became the first team to test the AMCC squad this season with the Islanders having won every match by two or more points.

Sophomore Hannah Brett picked up her 10th consecutive singles victory Tuesday and holds the best mark on the team with a 14-3 record. Sarah Jurakova has won six singles contests in a row and is 12-4 on the year.

The Pokes currently hold a 73-28 combined singles record so far this season, the best in the Southland Conference.

Abilene Christian (12-5, 2-1 SLC) brings an impressive resume into Friday's match against the Cowgirls having defeated Stephen F. Austin and Nicholls on the road while having been edged by Southeastern Louisiana, 4-3. The Wildcats sit atop the league standings with just one loss and are currently undefeated on their home court.

Erin Walker leads ACU from the top spot with a 7-8 overall singles record while Nada Marjanovic leads the squad with a 15-1 dual mark and 3-0 record in SLC play. The Wildcats have three players who have won four or more consecutive singles matches. In doubles, Abilene Christian is a combined 33-15 in dual matches.

Last season, the Cowgirls defeated ACU, 4-3, in Lake Charles. The Wildcats took down McNeese, 4-3, two years ago in Abilene.
