Cowgirls Drop Two On Final Day Of Ole Miss Inv.

OXFORD, Miss.—McNeese volleyball fell short in both matches Saturday on the final day of the Ole Miss Rebel Invitational, falling 3-0 (18-25, 17-25, 12-25) to Ole Miss and 3-1 (12-25, 28-26, 20-25, 18-25) to UT-Arlington.

The Cowgirls went up against three physical and quality teams over the weekend but saw steady improvement as each match went on.

"We really got challenged this weekend by some physical, high quality teams," said head coach Ashleigh Fitzgerald. "Despite coming away empty handed, we did get something positive out of them and matured more as the weekend went on."

Senior Rebecca Korenek was named to the all-tournament team after picking up seven kills against Ole Miss and nine against UTA. Also Jenny D'Alessandro picked up 17 kills and Katelyn Elliott picked up 12 against UTA.

Hailee Showers and Bridget Justis led the Cowgirls in digs against Ole Miss with 13 and 12, respectively.

The Cowgirls had three players record double figure digs against UTA with Justis leading the way with 23. Keegan Nelms and Adison Giambrone both had 10. Alexandra Aguilera led in assists in both matches with 19 against Ole Miss and 45 against UTA.

McNeese will have a quick turnaround, as they will travel to Louisiana-Lafayette for a match on Tuesday before traveling to Springfield, Missouri next weekend to take part in the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational hosted by Missouri State.
