WACO, Texas – The McNeese women's tennis squad picked up its first victory over the season after taking down UT-Rio Grande Valley, 6-1, on the Baylor University campus Saturday morning.
 
With the win, the Cowgirls improved to 1-1 on the season while the Vaqueros dropped to 1-1.
 
McNeese picked up the first point of the day with wins on Courts 2 and 3 as the team of Hannah Brett and Charoline Erlandsson defeated the team of Dominique Ibarra and Chloe LeClere, 6-2, while the combo of Vivien Borbely and Stella Carra won 6-4 over Marine Daryzan and Amanda Guardia.
 
In singles, Carra scored her first singles win as a Cowgirl with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Guardua that upped McNeese's lead to a 2-0 score. UTRGV cut into the lead on Court 4 as Vivien Borbely was defeated 4-6, 2-6.
 
Sophomore Giovanna Fioretti gave McNeese some comfort as she scored a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Darzyan in the first spot while Sarah Jurakova clinched the match with a 4-1 score with her 6-3, 6-3 win over Dominque Fuster.
 
Brett continued her amazing singles run as she picked up her 17^th straight singles victory in a tight 6-4, 3-6, 10-2 win over Ibarra while Erlandsson closed out the match with a close 7-5, 7-6 victory over LeClere.
 
The Cowgirls now turn their attention to perennial tennis power Baylor on Sunday as the teams meet at 3:30 p.m. The game will be streamed live with the link provided on McNeeseSports.com.
