LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's tennis squad returns to action this weekend when the Cowgirls hit the trail to Texas for a pair of matches against UTSA and Texas State.
Saturday's contest at UTSA will begin at 1 p.m. while the match against Texas State is set to start at 11 a.m. Sunday morning.
The Cowgirls (1-2) opened up their season last week with strong showings against some of the top talent in the country. McNeese picked up a dominating win against UT-Rio Grande Valley while falling to a tough Tulane and Baylor squads.
Junior standout
Hannah Brett looks to extend one of the nations longest winning streaks this weekend as she carries a 17-match streak into Texas. Brett has not lost a singles contest since February 2016.
Freshman
Stella Carra picked up her first collegiate victory last week while
Giovanna Fioretti,
Sarah Jurakova and
Charoline Erlandsson also recorded wins in singles play.
UTSA (0-0) begins its dual match season Saturday when it faces McNeese in San Antonio. The Roadrunners return four student-athletes from a squad that finished 10-12 last season and advanced to the Conference USA Tournament. The Cowgirls downed UTSA, 5-2, in Lake Charles last season.
Texas State (1-0) took down Prairie View A&M, 6-1, in its season opener and looks to build off a 9-13 overall record from last year. The Bobcats return six players from the 2016 season where they advanced to the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Tournament. McNeese defeated Texas State, 6-1 in San Marcos last year.
