McNeese Soccer Rolls Through Corpus Christi with 2-0 Shutout Win

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The McNeese women's soccer team (12-3-1, 8-1) notches another win in the record book after a 2-0 shutout victory over Texas A&M Corpus Christi (6-7-2, 3-5-1).

The Cowgirls 12th shutout of the season is also their fifth consecutive win and their fourth conference in on the road.

A&M Corpus Christi held McNeese scoreless until the 34th minute, when senior standout Savannah LaRicci scored her 11th goal of the season.

Senior Kayla Goedicke crossed the ball from the right side of the box when LaRicci volleyed the ball into the upper left of the net from the top of the 18 to give the Cowgirls a 1-0 lead going into halftime. "I am so happy with the result we got today and to be a part of this program," Goedicke said.

With another outstanding performance by LaRicci, she holds her spot in the SLC for most goals (11) and points (29).

After the half, LaRicci would play a part in McNeese's insurance goal, when Goedicke netted a goal to give McNeese a two goal lead they would hold until the end.

LaRIcci's assist is now her 18th of her career, beating out former Cowgirls Kamryn Koch and Alana Clark for first place in career assists in program history.

"Proud of the girls for getting the result tonight. Corpus came out and really battled. They were a tough opponent," assistant coach Nick Whiting said.

The Cowgirls have posted back-to-back contests with 12 shots on goal, the most the squad has earned this season.

Freshman goalkeeper, Emma Roccaforte, completed her seventh shutout of the season- with the Cowgirl defense allowing only nine shots during the match.

McNeese has now allowed only five goals in 16 matches, the best in program history and currently the best in the conference by 12 goals. While the Islanders eight of nine shots, on goal is the highest percentage of Cowgirl opponents  (with more than two shots) all season.

"As a team we have come a long way and I am looking forward to my last few games with this amazing group of girls," Goedicke said.

Texas A&M Corpus Christi falls to 3-5-1 in the Southland Conference will go on to face Lamar University on Sunday.

McNeese is now 8-1 in conference play and will be looking for their sixth consecutive win on Sunday when they travel to Houston Baptist to face the Huskies at 1:00PM.

"Tonight, we did a nice job of moving the ball at time and we will need more of that movement on Sunday against another strong team in Houston Baptist," Whiting said.
