CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The McNeese women's soccer team (12-4-1, 8-2) fell to Houston Baptist (7-6-2, 6–3-1) on Sunday 3-2, after coming back from a three goal deficit mid-way through the second half.
The Cowgirls loss is only their fourth of the season and their second to a conference opponent. The three goals allowed is the most McNeese has allowed all season, bringing its season total to eight goals allowed in 17 contests.
McNeese and Houston Baptist ended the first half with both teams scoreless. The Cowgirls had the offensive upper hand, putting up seven shots to the Husky's three.
The second half was kicked off with three HBU goals in the 46th, 62nd, and 76th minute.
11 different Cowgirls played a part in the McNeese offensive attack with at least one shot in the match.
Senior Savannah LaRicci lead all players with six shots, four on goal. LaRicci's four shots on goal are more than the HBU squad had combined (3).
McNeese seemed to be on the verge of a thrilling comeback, after freshmen Maddie Needing and Anna Watson scored in the 78th and 82nd minute respectively.
LaRicci was credited on the assist for Neidig's goal- LaRicci sent a header into the goal and Neidig knocked in the rebound off the HBU keeper.
Houston Baptist advances to 6-3-1 in the Southland Conference will go on to face Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Friday.
McNeese is now 8-2 in conference play and will be looking for the conference title when they play Lamar University in Beaumont on Friday at 7PM.
