LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's basketball will begin its final three non-conference road games at no. 6 Baylor (8-1) on Wednesday, December 13 in a game that will be televised on Fox Southwest, Channel 38 on Suddenlink. Tipoff is set for 12 p.m. at the Ferrell Center.
"This will be a big challenge for us but we just have to go and compete. I want to see how much we have improved since we played our last ranked team which was Texas," said head coach
Kacie Cryer.
McNeese (4-4) is coming off an 84-46 home win over Louisiana College Monday night that saw every Cowgirl in uniform get a good amount of playing time.
Wednesday's game will be the second ranked opponent McNeese will play this season. McNeese traveled to then no. 2 Texas on Nov. 15 in the Cowgirls' second game of the season. Texas handed McNeese a 100-34 loss.
This will be the 15
th meeting between the teams with Baylor holding an 8-6 all-time record. Baylor has won the last six games against McNeese including the last five that have been played in Waco.
McNeese will enter the game with three players averaging in double figures. Senior Keara Hudnall leads the Cowgirls with 13.1 ppg. Fellow senior Dede Sheppard is averaging 11.4 ppg. and sophomore Caitlin Davis is averaging 10.3 ppg. Davis also leads the team with 6.5 apg. While senior Jasmyn Carswell and freshman Bre'Ashlee Jones both lead with 6.6 rpg.
Baylor's lone loss came in an 82-68 road loss at UCLA on Nov. 18.
The Bears have four players currently averaging in double figures and are led by All-American Kalani Brown's 23.0 ppg. Lauren Cox is averaging a double-double with 16.3 ppg. and 10.4 rpg. Alexis Morris is averaging 10.6 ppg. and Kristy Wallace is averaging 10.2 ppg.
McNeese will be the third of four Southland Conference schools to take on the Bears this season. Baylor opened its season with a 121-62 win over Lamar. The Bears picked up an 86-55 win over UCA on Nov. 14. After facing the Cowgirls Wednesday, Baylor will travel to Nicholls on Dec. 18.
"We need to handle the environment better and we have to hit some shots. I respect coach Mulkey (Kim), she has done a tremendous job not only at Baylor but for the game of basketball as a whole."
