LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese women's basketball will play its first road game at UL-Lafayette on Sunday, Dec. 3 since its Nov. 15 game at Texas. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. at the Cajundome. The game will be televised on Cox Sports (Suddenlink-Ch. 42) in Lake Charles. The game will also be broadcast on the McNeese radio network (1470/1290 AM).
The game will be a reunion of sorts amongst the coaching staffs. McNeese head coach
Kacie Cryer played under UL-Lafayette's head coach Garry Brodhead at Tuerlings High where she helped lead the 2002 team to the state championship. Cryer was also a graduate assistant at McNeese while Brodhead was an assistant coach. Brodhead spent five years at McNeese (2007-12) serving both as an assistant and associate head coach.
Former Cowgirl Amber Donnes (2014-2017) is now serving as a graduate assistant on the Ragin' Cajun staff. While at McNeese, Donnes became the 16
th player to score over 1,000 points, ending her career with 1,024 points.
McNeese (3-3) leads the all-time series 28-15 but dropped last year's contest 77-70 in Lake Charles in Cryer's coaching debut. The Cowgirls are coming off a 70-66 home loss to Tulane on Wednesday in a game that came down to the wire. The Cowgirls had their chances but couldn't convert down the stretch.
Keara Hudnall and Caitlin Davis continue to lead the Cowgirls in scoring with 12.5 ppg. and 11.3 ppg., respectively. Davis, the native of Breaux Bridge also leads the team in assists (7.8) and steals (1.8). Jasmyn Carswell and Bre'Ashlee Jones continue to lead McNeese in rebounds. Carswell is averaging 6.5 per game and Jones is averaging 6.3 per game.
UL-Lafayette enters the game with a 2-5 record with their wins coming over Southland foe New Orleans in as season opening win. The Ragin' Cajuns also defeated Niagra at the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout. UL-Lafayette has lost their last two games and are coming off a 94-37 road loss at the hands of sixth ranked Mississippi State.
