LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's tennis squad dominated its home opener as the Cowgirls posted a 6-1 victory over Prairie View A&M Sunday afternoon at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
 
McNeese improved to 3-5 overall on the season with its second win in two days while the Lady Panthers dropped to 1-12 this year. The Cowgirls took down Grambling while falling to Louisiana Tech on Saturday.
 
In doubles play, the team of Vivien Borbely and Phonexay Chitdara defeated PVAM's Sydney Thomas and Tatiana Ruhl, 6-1, for the first result of the day while Sarah Jurakova and Giovanna Fioretti picked up a 6-3 victory on Court 1 to clinch the point. Hannah Brett and Charoline Erlandsson improved to 4-3 as a team when they finished out doubles with a 6-4 win.
 
Erlandsson picked up the first point of singles action as she defeated Ruhl 6-3, 6-2 on Court 6 while Jurakova took down her opponent in the second spot 6-4, 6-0 to extend the lead.
 
Fioretti clinched the match point from the top spot as she handled PVAM's Neharika Rama 6-2, 6-4 for her third win on the season.
 
Brett scored her second consecutive win as she took down PVAM's Thomas on Court 3 in a three-set showdown 6-2, 4-6, 10-4. Brett now holds a team-best 6-1 overall record in singles play on the year.
 
Chitdara scored the last point for McNeese with a 7-5, 6-2 results over Timara Mazwell in the fifth spot.
 
The Lady Panthers' only point of the match came from Court 4 as Shaddaw Findley took down VBorbely 6-1, 3-6, 7-6.
 
McNeese will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 18 when it hosts ULM at the Hank Tennis Center. First serve is set for a Noon start.
