LAFAYETTE – The McNeese women's tennis squad got back on track Wednesday evening with a huge victory as the Cowgirls posted a 4-0 shutout over in-state rival UL-Lafayette on the road in the first of two matches this weekend.
 
McNeeese (4-6) snapped a five-match road losing skid with the victory while the Cajuns fall to 1-5 overall on the season.
 
The Cowgirls clinched the first point of the day in doubles action as the third combo of Stella Carra and Giovanna Fioretti defeated Carla Ortega and India Shiaelis, 6-1. Vivien Borbely and Charoline Erlandsson clinched the match with a 6-1 victory over the team of Abby Johnson and Alexandra Way on Court Two.
 
In singles play, Hannah Brett upped the Cowgirls' lead to a 2-0 mark over the Cajuns following a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Kelly Drew in the third spot. Brett improved to a team best 8-1 in singles matches on the season and has now won four in a row. Charoline Erlandsson took down Yasmine Ansari 6-3, 6-1 in the sixth spot to extend McNeese's lead to a 3-0 score.
 
Giovanna Fioretti clinched the match from the first spot as she dominated ULL's Lucile Delabarre 6-2, 6-4.
 
McNeese opens up its Southland Conference slate on Saturday with first serve set for Noon at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center. The Cowgirls finished 7-4 in league action last season before advancing to the semi-finals of the SLC Tournament.
