LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball will look to get back on track after dropping their last four games when the Cowgirls host Tulsa in a single game Friday night beginning at 6 p.m.
McNeese (5-8) is coming off a doubleheader loss at 24
th ranked Baylor on Wednesday night. The Cowgirls let a 5-2 fifth inning lead slip away in a first game 6-5, eight-inning loss. McNeese fell 9-3 in the nightcap.
Junior
Morgan Catron is currently swinging the hot bat and leads the Cowgirls with a .372 average. Catron led McNeese in the Baylor doubleheader with five hits including a double and her third home run of the season. She leads the team with 16 hits and 13 RBI with a .605 slugging percent.
Senior
Tori Yanitor is second on the team with 10 hits and 10 RBI while
Erika Piancastelli leads the team with nine stolen bases and 16 walks.
In the circle, senior
Rachel Smith leads the staff with a 1.97 ERA. Smith has a team high 15 strikeouts while freshman
Alexsandra Flores is second with 14 strikeouts. Flores is also 1-2 on the season with a 3.50 ERA. Junior
Jolie Trahan is 2-2 on the year with a 3.61 ERA and has the only shutout of the season.
Tulsa (4-6) will face Alabama A&M at 10 a.m. Friday morning as part to the Lamar Cardinal Classic in Beaumont, Texas before heading to Cowgirl Diamond Friday night.
The Hurricane is led at the plate by Julia Hollingsworth's .419 average, 13 hits and seven RBI. Shelby Estocado leads Tulsa with three homeruns. Haley Meinen is 1-0 with a 2.68 ERA and Emily Watson is 3-2 with a 2.96 ERA.
Following Friday's game, McNeese will travel to Ruston to take part in the Louisiana Tech Classic. McNeese will face both Northern Iowa and Louisiana Tech on Sunday. McNeese will return home on Tuesday, Feb. 28 against South Alabama. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
