CONWAY, Ark. – The McNeese women's tennis squad put forth a valiant effort in Sunday's Southland Conference contest against Stephen F. Austin but eventually fell to the Ladyjacks, 5-2, and dropped its first league match this season.
 
The Cowgirls dipped to 7-7 overall this season and 2-1 in league play while SFA improved to 6-6 and 2-2 in conference action.
 
SFA picked up the doubles points with victories in the first and third positions while the team of Vivien Borbely and Charoline Erlandsson scored the only win for the Cowgirls with a 6-1 defeat over Sian Payne and Darinka Tiboldi. Erlandsson improved to 9-4 in doubles play, including a 3-0 undefeated record with partner Vivien Borbely.
 
In singles, McNeese started a comeback as junior Hannah Brett tied the match up after taking down Tiboldi 6-1, 6-1 in the third spot. Brett now leads the Cowgirls with 11 overall wins and has now won eight of her last 10 matches.
 
After the Ladyjacks took the lead again with a win on Court 4, the Pokes captured a victory on Court Two as Sarah Jurakova handled Vanesa Pardo 6-3, 6-1 to knot up the score once again. Jurakova improved to 2-1 in Southland Conference action this season.
 
From there, it was all SFA as the Ladyjacks took home the rest of the three matches to complete the victory over the Cowgirls.
 
McNeese continues its SLC weekend road trip Monday afternoon when it takes on Northwestern State at noon in Natchitoches.
