Cowgirls Take On AMCC, UIW In Southland Road Action

LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's tennis returns to action this weekend as the Cowgirls make the trip to the Lonestar State for a duo of Southland Conference contests against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Incarnate Word.

Friday's match against A&M-Corpus Christi is set for a noon start while Saturday's contest at Incarnate Word is slated for an 11 a.m. first serve.

McNeese (8-8, 3-2 SLC) looks to bounce back from a home conference loss to Abilene Christian last weekend. The Cowgirls have won three of their last five Southland Conference matchups and are 1-1 on the road during that span.

In their last five conference matches, four Cowgirls posted 3-2 marks including Giovanna Fioretti's three victories from the top spot. In doubles, the team of Charoline Erlandsson and Vivien Borbely are perfect in all five of their contests against Southland opponents.

AMCC (9-2, 3-1 SLC) fell to Lamar in Beaumont last weekend in its first league loss before coming back to take down Sam Houston State on the road. The Islanders, who are the defending league champions, return to Corpus Christ after playing their first conference matches on the road.

Hortense Boscher and Jelena Dznic have split time in the top spot for AMCC and have combined for seven total wins, including four in conference play. The team of Louise Trigona and Marina Vicens Miquel are a perfect 3-0 in SLC doubles action from the second spot. The Islanders are a combined 48-14 in singles play and 17-12 in doubles play.

The Islanders leads the all-time series, 11-8, against McNeese. The two squads played each other twice last season with AMCC taking a 4-3 decision from the Cowgirls in Lake Charles and a 4-3 semi-final win in the Southland tournament.

UIW (3-13, 0-4 SLC) has struggle in league play with losses at Central Arkansas, A&M-Corpus Christi, Sam Houston State and Lamar. The Cardinals have lost seven straight and are 1-4 on their own home court.

The Pokes hold a 3-0 lead in the all-time series against UIW and won last season's match in Lake Charles, 6-1.
