Justin HIll gets win No. 100 in DH sweep over PVAM

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese completed its three-game baseball sweep over Prairie View with a double header sweep on Saturday by scores of 12-9 and 7-2 while giving head coach Justin Hill his 100th career victory following the game 1 win.

The Cowboys (8-4), now winners of four straight while improving to 8-0 at home, will next be in action on Wednesday when they host LSU at 6 p.m.

That game is sold out.

McNeese combined for 24 hits in the twinbill as Will Fox collected four hits with two of those doubles. Matt Gallier combined to go 5-for-9 with four RBI in the two games.

Rhett Deaton (1-0) notched his first win of the season in game No. 1 after throwing 5 1/3 innings and giving up three earned runs while striking out six.

McNeese led 12-4 after seven inning powered by a 3-run fifth and a 4-run seventh. But Prairie View (1-12) came back with four runs in the top of the eight and added another in the ninth to close the gap.

Trent Fontenot entered with two out and a runner at second and got Kevin Macias to strike out swinging to end the game while picking up his first save of the season.

In the second game, the Panthers scored first with an unearned run in the second but McNeese responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning behind a RBI single by Fox and a two-run double from Robbie Podorsky to make it 3-1.

Podorsky added another RBI in the eighth inning to finish the game 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Prairie View closed the gap to 3-2 following a fifth inning RBI single by leadoff hitter Corbin Jamison that scored Kaylor Lewis but McNeese answered with a run in the seventh on a hit by Gallier, then three runs in the seventh behind RBI singles from Podorsky, Dustin Duhon and Gallier to up the lead to 7-2.

Bryan King improved to 2-1 on the season after getting the win following a five inning outing where he allowed one earned run, two total, on four hits while striking out seven.

Aidan Anderson pitched a perfect sixth and seventh inning with four strikeouts to keep the Panthers from putting together any kind of rally, and Collin Kober closed out the final two innings of scoreless and hitless ball to earn his second save of the season.

PVAM starting pitcher Charles Philpott (1-1) took the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings.
