LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's tennis squad faces off against its final non-conference foe of the regular season Wednesday afternoon as the Cowgirls welcome Bowling Green to the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
First serve for the match is schedule for 1 p.m. Wednesday's match is the final contest of a four-match homestand.
The Cowgirls (6-6) have been a hot streak as of late with wins in four of their last five matches. McNeese has outscored its opponents 22-10 during that span which includes two victories against Southland Conference opponents to start the league slate.
With a combined 31 victories in singles action this season, the Cowgirls sport four players with a win streak, including
Giovanna Fioretti and
Charoline Erlandsson's three-match streak. Fioretti helped McNeese capture a conference win over New Orleans last weekend in a three-set duel while Erlandsson was perfect in both singles and doubles.
Bowling Green (4-6) plays at Houston Tuesday before making its way to Lake Charles. The Falcons are 1-6 on the road this season with its last two losses coming to Notre Dame and Xavier.
Bowling Green is led by two seniors along with three returners while also welcoming two freshmen to this year's squad. No. 1 singles player Paul Comella holds a 6-3 record on the year while her and partner Marharita-Sophia Tavpash lead all doubles teams with a 6-4 mark.
Wednesday's match will be the first meeting between McNeese and Bowling Green. The Cowgirls have never played a current member of the Mid-American Conference.
Following the match, McNeese returns to conference play when it travels to Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State this weekend.
