Cowgirl Netters Defeat Bowling Green, 4-3

LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's tennis squad picked up a hard-fought non-conference victory Wednesday afternoon as junior Hannah Brett helped the Cowgirls clinch the match point against Bowling Green, 4-3, at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.

With the match tied up, 3-3, Brett locked in and battled Bowling Green's Maraharita Tavpash in a three-set duel. Brett picked up the first set but Tavpash rallied to tie things up. With the match in the hands of the No. 3 court, Brett was able to rally past with a 6-3 set win to give the Cowgirls their fourth-straight victory.

The win improved McNeese to 7-6 overall on the season while Bowling Green fell to 4-8 this year.

Bowling Green picked up the first point of the game after taking two of three doubles against the Cowgirls. The No. 3 doubles Cowgirls combo of Giovanna Fioretti and Stella Carra picked up the automatic win with the Falcons having no player.

In singles, Carra tied the match up with an automatic victory while Sarah Jurakova pushed McNeese into a 2-1 win lead following a 6-1, 6-3 win in the No. 2 spot.

Bowling Green tied things up with a win on Court One but the Cowgirls rallied again as Charoline Erlandsson won 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 5 spot.

The Cowgirls will battle the Lady Demons of Northwestern State at Saturday in Natchitoches before traveling to Stephen F. Austin for a Sunday duel.
