SAN MARCOS – One day after setting a personal record in the 100-meter dash at the Texas Relasy, sophomore sprinter
Tyler Smith achieved the feat again at the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday afternoon, this time in the 200-meters where he clocked a PR time of 21.26 to finish fourth overall in the event.
Smith bettered his previous personal best by .27 seconds while finishing first in his heat. Fellow sprinter
Jaylen Goodly ran his fastest 200-meters of the season with a time of 22.37 to finish second in his heat. That time is the second-fastest he's put up in his career.
"We had another solid outing in Texas today," said head coach
Brendon Gilroy. "I thought all of our athletes competed well and continue to improve every week."
On the women's side, four runners posted new PRs including all three competitors in the 200-meter dash.
Mia Robinson clocked a 24.32 to finish 11
th overall and first in her heat while setting a new PR.
Diamond Lee (24.87, third in heat) and
Taneisha Allen (25.26, third in heat) also set new personal bests.
In the 100-meter hurdles,
Tijana Antic ran a 14.18 to finish 12
th overall and fourth in her heat while posting a new PR. She also finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 40-feet, 2-inches, her second-best jump in her career.
Morgan Woods placed fifth in the javelin event at 125-09 while the Cowgirls' 4x100-meter relay team of Lee, Allen,
Ayanna Weeks and
Aleyah Donald, ran a 47.55 time to place seventh.
The entire track and field team will be back in action next Saturday when it hosts the McNeese Spring Time Classic.
