LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's tennis team will look to close out its regular season on a positive note when the Cowgirls travel to Thibodaux Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.
McNeese (11-10, 6-4 SLC) has already clinched a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament that will take place in two weeks in Beaumont, Texas. The Cowgirls are tied for fourth place with Northwestern State and will look to improve on its tournament seeding with a win Saturday. McNeese is a half match out of third place.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sits atop the league standings with an 8-1 record followed by Central Arkansas' 6-2 record. Lamar is 6-3 followed by McNeese and Northwestern State.
The Cowgirls enter Saturday's match having won its last two matches and three of its last four matches. The time to be playing your best match is now and that is what the Cowgirls showed last weekend when they picked up a 5-2 road win at Lamar before capping off its weekend with a 6-1 win at Sam Houston State.
Hannah Brett continues to lead the Cowgirls with a 16-4 overall match and is 7-3 in conference play. Brett has won five of her last seven matches. Brett and
Sarah Jurakova have teamed to produce a 7-2 overall doubles record and are 7-1 in the SLC as the Cowgirls' top doubles team.
The Cowgirls' no. 2 doubles teamed made up of
Vivien Borbely and
Charoline Erlandsson is 9-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
Nicholls (6-10, 1-9 SLC) are out of contention for a conference tournament spot and it will be there home finale. The Colonels have lost their last eight matches with its lone conference win coming against Southeastern Louisiana in the conference opener on March 8.
