LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's tennis hits the road to Texas this weekend for Southland Conference contests at Lamar and Sam Houston State.
The weekend will kick off with a Saturday afternoon match against the Cardinals at 1 p.m. and will wrap up in Huntsville on Sunday against the Bearkats starting at 11 a.m.
McNeese (9-10, 4-4 SLC) looks to bounce back from a 6-1 home loss to Central Arkansas earlier in the week while having just two of its last three matches.
The Cowgirls are still in the hunt for a spot in the eight-team Southland Conference Tournament in Beaumont at the end of the month.
Hanna Brett leads the team in SLC singles play with a 5-3 mark while
Stella Carra has won her last two singles matchups against Incarnate Word and Central Arkansas.
In doubles,
Vivien Borbely and
Charoline Erlandsson lead the team with a 6-2 mark on the year in Southland action.
Lamar (13-6, 5-2 SLC) sits near the top of the league standings despite having lost its last two matches to Sam Houston State and non-conference foe Houston. The Cardinals are 8-1 at home and have won seven of their last 10 contests.
The Cardinals hold a 71-37 combined singles record this season while Sanja Jolic leads Lamar with a perfect 7-0 SLC mark. Katya Lapayeva has a 6-1 mark on the year in conference play.
Sam Houston State (7-10, 4-3 SLC) has taken victories in its last two conference matchups as the Bearkats pulled off victories on the road at Central Arkansas and Lamar. Sam Houston is 4-3 at home with wins in three of its last five contests.
Ema Barkovic is 5-2 in league singles action from the top spot for the Bearkats while Khee Yen Whee has a 6-1 SLC mark on the season. In doubles, the team of Mila Milanovic and Carrie Casey hold a 5-2 record during Southland play.
