HUNTSVILLE, Texas- After picking up a huge Southland Conference win at Lamar Saturday, McNeese women's tennis capped off its weekend with a commanding 6-1 road win at Sam Houston State Sunday to improve to 11-10 overall and 6-4 in the SLC.

The Cowgirls picked up from where they left off at Lamar Saturday by getting off to another 1-0 start at Sam Houston State by winning the doubles points.
Giovanna Fioretti and
Stella Carra won their no. 3 doubles by default then
Sarah Jurakova and
Hannah Brett paired up at the no. 1 doubles to defeat Mila Milanovic and Carrie Casey 6-4 to give the Cowgirls the early lead.

McNeese took and easy 2-0 overall lead with Carra picking up default win at the no.6 singles. Fioretti then gave the Cowgirls a 3-0 win after Ema Barkovic retired in the first set with Fioretti leading 3-2. A straight set win 6-0, 6-0 by
Phonexay Chitdara over Caitlyn Mitchell at the no. 5 spot extended the Cowgirl lead to 4-0.

Sam Houston State (8-11, 5-4 SLC) picked up their only win of the day with a 6-1, 6-3 Milanovic victory over
Charoline Erlandsson.

Brett and Jurakova won the Cowgirls final two points of the match with Brett's 7-5, 7-6 win over Casey at no. 2 and Jurakova's tie-breaker (4-6, 6-4, 10-6) win over Khee Yen Wee at the top singles slot.

The Cowgirls are currently tied for fourth place in the league standings and will conclude its regular season next Saturday at Nicholls. The eight-team Southland Conference Tournament is scheduled for April 28-30 at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center. Â
