Two of the league's top scoring and rebounding teams clash on Saturday in Beaumont

LAKE CHARLES—Two of the league's top women's basketball scoring and rebounding teams will clash on the hardwood Saturday, Jan. 27 when McNeese travels to Beaumont, Texas to face preseason favorite Lamar. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at the Montagne Center. The game will be streamed on ESPN3 and can be heard on the McNeese Radio Network (Cajun Radio/1470/1290 AM).
 
McNeese enters the game as the top rebounding team (45.3 rpg.) and Lamar is the top scoring (75.9 ppg.) team in conference games. The Cowgirls are third in the league in scoring (70.6 ppg.) while the Cardinals also lead the league in steals (18.5) and assists (15.1).
 
The game will also pit two of the league's top point guards in McNeese's Caitlin Davis and Lamar's Chastadie Barrs. Davis ranks second in SLC games with 5.9 assist per contest while Barrs is third with 5.6 per game.
 
McNeese (8-10, 4-3 SLC) will look to remain unbeaten on the road in conference action, entering the game with a 3-0 conference road record.
 
The Cowgirls are coming off another bye week and will look to pick up where they left off in their 86-74 win at Houston Baptist last Saturday that saw senior Mercedes Rogers lead the Cowgirls with a season high 17 points and freshman Bre'Ashlee Jones tied her career high with 15 points.
 
Davis and senior Dede Sheppard continue to lead McNeese in scoring with 11.4 ppg., and 10.6 ppg., respectively.
 
The Cowgirls have three players averaging more than six rebounds per game. Rogers, who moved into sixth place in McNeese career rebounds against Houston Baptist, leads the team with 7.1 per game. Jones is grabbing 6.8 and senior Jasmyn Carswell is picking up 6.4 per contest.
 
Lamar (12-6, 7-1 SLC) enters the game in second place in the standings behind Stephen F. Austin (15-3, 7-0 SLC). The Cardinals have won their last four games after its 76-61 road win at Nicholls on Wednesday.  The Cardinals have also won their last 22 games in the Montagne Center dating back to last season where they posted a perfect 15-0 home record. They are 7-0 this season.   
 
The Cardinals have a trio of players averaging in double figures with Moe Kinard leading the way with 16.9 ppg. Barrs is averaging 13.0 ppg. while De'Angela Mathis is averaging 10.7 ppg. Kiandra Bowers leads the birds with 8.8 rpg.
