Box Score LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese Cowgirl tennis team opened up the 2017-18 spring season with strong performances across the board and great success overall, when they swept Louisiana Tech for the second year in a row on Monday, taking down the Lady Techsters 7-0.

Helena Besovic starts her fourth year at McNeese 1-0 after the win, "Today was a great season opening match for us. We took control of the match early in doubles and continued dominating in singles. I have a lot of respect for Tech, and I'm very proud we came out strong today."
The Cowgirl duos defeated the Lady Techsters in all three doubles matches.
Giovanna Fioretti and Marjia Mastilovic defeated Andrea Perez-Lopez and Paulina Cota (6-1), while Phonexay CHitdara and
Charoline Erlandsson paired up to take down Nadja Manjon and Karla De La Luz of Tech (6-1) as well.
Sarah Jurakova and Sofia SanJose Moreno wrapped up doubles-competition with a 6-4 win over Sonia Chen and Claudia Oravcova.

Fioretti matched with Tech's Sonia Chen in the number one seed, defeating Chen in straight sets 6-4 and 6-2.
Mastilovic, Chitdara, and Moreno also defeated their opponents in straight sets.
Mastilovic defeated Cota of Louisiana Tech 6-4 and 6-0, Chitdara defeated Oravcova 6-0 and 6-3, while freshmen Moreno rose victorious against Perez-Lopez 6-2 and 6-4.
Jurakova defeated Lady Techster Manjon in three sets after dropping the first set 3-6, Jurakova finished the final two sets up 6-2, 6-4.
Erlandsson had similar success, claiming victory over Karla De La Luz in three sets: 7-6, 4-6, 10-5.
"There's been a lot of hard work put into practice, and everyone on the team is excited to have started competing again" Besovic said.
McNeese will host for its next three contests, over the February 16-18 weekend. On Friday, the Cowgirls will match up against Prairie View A&M University, then University of Texas San Antonio on Saturday, and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette on Sunday.
