McNeese Tennis Set to Host Three in Weekend Home Series

LAKE CHARLES – Cowgirl Tennis is only one day out from a three-day home match series, when McNeese will face Prairie View A&M, Texas-San Antonio, and UL-Lafayette.

The Cowgirls are heading into the weekend after a complete sweep of Louisiana Tech earlier this week.

The Cowgirl duos defeated the Lady Techsters in all three doubles matches to earn the lone doubles-point. Giovanna Fioretti and Marjia Mastilovic defeated Andrea Perez-Lopez and Paulina Cota (6-1), while Phonexay Chitdara and Charoline Erlandsson paired up to take down Nadja Manjon and Karla De La Luz of Tech (6-1) as well.

Prairie View A&M, the Cowgirls opponent on Friday (Feb 16), is boasting a not so good start to its season, which is off to an 0-8 start. Most recently, the Lady Panthers dropped matches Texas A&M Corpus Christi (0-4), Lamar (0-4), and TCU (0-7).

Last year, McNeese defeated Prairie View 6-1. Senior Sarah Jurakova posted a 6-0, 6-4 win over PVAMU's returning senior Stacy Lackey in the match victory.

Friday's match against Prairie View A&M will begin at 2 p.m.

UTSA is the only opponent from this weekend that McNeese did not defeat last season. The Cowgirls dropped the late-January match 5-2, winning two of six singles match-ups.

Both Jurakova and senior teammate Hannah Brett were able to contribute to the win column, claiming singles wins against UTSA's Denisa Ibrahimovic (6-3, 6-4)
And Lina Hallgren (6-1, 6-4) respectively.

On Saturday, the Cowgirls and Roadrunners will begin at 11 a.m.

Wrapping up the weekend, McNeese will face I-10 rivals UL-Lafayette on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Ragin Cajuns are headed to McNeese with a 7-2 record under its belt, with wins over Southland Conference teams Incarnate Word (4-0), Northwestern State (4-3), and Southeastern (4-3).

The last time the two teams met, McNeese took down ULL 4-0 in Cajun Country. The Cowgirls took home key doubles wins against ULL; Vivien Borbely and Charoline Erlandsson defeated Abby Johnson and Alexandra Way 6-1, while Stella Carra and Giovanna Fioretti defeated Carla Ortega and India Shiaelis 6-1 as well.
