Box Score LAKE CHARLES – There is only one thing better than a match sweep, and that is back-to-back match sweeps. The McNeese Cowgirls (2-0) swept Prairie View A&M's Panthers on Friday afternoon, 7-0. This makes the second consecutive year in which McNeese took home all the points against the Panthers.
Hannah Brett and
Sarah Jurakova begin the day with the first doubles-win over Neharika Rama and Constanza Aranguiz of Prairie View. With her second win of the year, Brett and her partner have won their last eight doubles competitions.
Following in line with the same success were doubles pair
Giovanna Fioretti and Marjia MAstilovic, the duo defeated Panthers Shaddae Findley and Stacy Lackey 6-4.
Closing out the day in doubles play was
Charoline Erlandsson and
Phonexay Chitdara, who came out on top against Jimena Castellanos and Jessica Lackey, 6-1.
All six Cowgirls dominated singles play, allowing only eight sets slip away in 60 played. Sweeping her opponent in the number one spot, Erlandsson defeated Jessica Lackey 6-0 in both sets. Her victory also clinched the win against Prairie View.
Jurakova defeated Panther Rama 6-0, 6-1, as did Chitdara to her opponent from Prairie View, Castellanos.
In the three spot, Fioretti defeated Stacy Lackey 6-1, 6-0 just before Mastilovic took down Maxwell from PVAMU 6-1, 6-1.
Wrapping up singles play was Brett, in the sixth spot, she defeated Aranguiz 6-1,6-2, completing the sweep over Prairie View and advancing the Cowgirls to a 2-0 start on their spring season.
The next match for McNeese is Saturday (Feb 17); the Cowgirls will face UTSA at 11 a.m. at the Nancy Hank Tennis Complex.
