Box Score LAKE CHARLES – McNeese women's tennis is off to a magnificent spring season after defeating I-10 rival UL-Lafayette, sweeping the Ragin Cajuns 7-0.
 
The sweep was the Cowgirls third of the season, as they advance to 4-0 on the year.
 
Charoline Erlandsson and Phonexay Chitdara secured the first win of the day. In the number three spot in double play, the two defeated ULL's Kelly Drew and Marina Garcia 6-1.
 
Finishing second, in the number spot were top performers Sarah Jurakova and Hannah Brett, who with the same score, took down Elena Sava and Abby Johnson of the Ragin Cajuns.
 
Last to round out doubles-competition were Giovanna Fioretti and Marija Mastilovic. As the number twos, Fioretti and Mastilovic  defeated UL-Lafayette freshmen Floriane Picaut and Dana Radovanovic, 4-2.
 
On the singles front, McNeese continued to have success.
 
Although they faced their toughest competition so far this season, the Cowgirls maintained their composure and came out on top time and time again.
 
Both Fioretti and Chitdara needed a tie breaker to win against their opponents. Fioretti sat comfortably in the number one spot, as she does, finishing 5^th with her victory over Kelly Drew 6-3, 7-6 (7-1).                
 
Chitdara closed out today's sweep with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) win over Abby Johnson.
 
Completing their sets before Chitdara and Fioretti, were Brett, Jurakova, Mastilovic, and Erlandsson- who all defeated their opponents in straight sets on Sunday.
 
Finishing first and second, were Brett and Jurakova, who carried over their success from doubles play to defeat Radovanovic (6-2, 6-0) and PIcaut (6-2, 6-2) respectively.
 
In the number four spot was Mastilovic, who took down Sava in an extended 6-3, 7-5 win.
 
Finishing fourth in the number five spot was Erlandsson, who was able to take down ULL's Garcia, in straight sets, 6-4 and 4-3.
 
The Cowgirls will head to a neutral zone this week, when they face Eastern Michigan on Thursday in Beaumont at 10 a.m.
