Men's Basketball Travels to Corpus Christi; On the Hunt for Tournament Berth

LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese Cowboys have one last road match ahead of them, this time headed east to Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on Wednesday (Feb.28).

McNeese is only one spot out of 8th in the Southland Conference standings, so Wednesday night's contest will be a must-win if the Cowboys want to stay eligible for a spot in the tournament.

McNeese (10-16, 7-9) is experiencing its first 10-win season since 2014-15. The last time the Cowboys earned a tournament berth was 2015-16, they finished 9-20 overall and 7-11 in SLC play, losing to Nicholls 94-90 out in an overtime thriller in the first round of the tournament.

The Cowboys are on the road after splitting back-to-back home games with a 96-79 loss to top-ranked Nicholls, then securing a key 88-79 win against Houston Baptist on Saturday.

Texas A&M-CC (9-17, 6-10) will be hosting McNeese after a 69-62 loss to Incarnate Word last week. Corpus Christi has lost five of its last six after winning four straight in SLC play earlier this year.

Standout newcomer Quatarrius Wilson is back to his double-double ways after a short slump against Nicholls. Wilson is the only Southland player to average a double-double, as he is the only SLC player to average ten or more rebounds.

In conference play, sophomore guard Kalob Ledoux is averaging 17.5 points per game, fifth best in the SLC. He leads the Cowboys in scoring for the second-consecutive year.

The Cowboys and Islanders have not met yet this season; the last time they played, McNeese lost on the road 81-70. The loss officially eliminated the Cowboys from the league postseason tournament as they fell to 7-20 overall and 4-12 in conference play.

The loss was McNeese's ninth straight to Corpus Christi. In a series that dates back to 2007, as the Cowboys trail 5-9 overall, with all games being played with head coach Dave Simmons at the helm.

The two teams have never played in an overtime game, but have met in the conference tournament once, in 2007 when Texas A&M-CC took home an 86-67 win.
