Women's Basketball Returns Home Saturday To Host SE La.

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's basketball returns home Saturday after being on the road for nearly a month to host Southeastern Louisiana, the team they traveled to in mid-January to start its six game road stretch. The Cowgirls will look for its second win over the Lady Lions this season after a 77-65 win in Hammond on Jan. 13. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. The game can also be heard on the McNeese Radio Network (Cajun Radio 1470/1290 AM).
 
McNeese (10-12, 6-5 SLC) is coming off a 73-58 road loss at second place Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday that saw the Cowgirls holding the lead until midway through the third quarter before SFA would go on to make six of their seven three-pointers in the fourth quarter to remain undefeated at home this season.
 
Cowgirl freshman Bre'Ashlee Jones continued her outstanding play by posting her second straight double double to lead McNeese with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Jones is averaging 13.5 ppg. and 13.0 ppg. in the last two games. She also recorded a double double (14 pts., 14 reb.) in the win at Northwestern State last Saturday.
 
Sophomore Caitlin Davis and senior Dede Sheppard lead the Cowgirls in scoring 11.6 and 10.2 ppg, respectively. Davis also leads the team with 5.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game. Senior Mercedes Rogers continues to head the trio of players averaging over six rebounds. Rogers is pulling down 7.2 per game while Jones is averaging 7.0 and senior Jasmyn Carswell is averaging 6.0 per game.
 
Southeastern La. (6-17, 5-7 SLC) enters Saturday's game having won five of its last seven including its last two. The Lady Lions are coming off two home wins, a 78-70 double overtime win over UCA last Saturday and a 65-54 win against Incarnate Word on Wednesday.
 
Senior Taylin Underwood, who is coming off a double double against Incarnate Word (13 pts., 10 reb.) to go along with a game-high six assists, leads SE La. in scoring with 18.9 ppg. Jyar Fryer is the only other double figure scorer with 10.9 ppg. Tyler Morrison leads with 7.9 rpg. and Caitlyn Williams is averaging 6.8 rpg.
