LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese Cowgirl tennis team will look to keep its running for a Southland Conference championship
this Saturday and
Monday when it hosts Incarnate Word and the defending league champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
The Cowgirls (8-2, 4-1 SLC) will face UIW (3-12, 1-3)
on Saturday morning at 11 and will then host TAMU-CC (8-5, 3-0) at
noon on Monday.
The Cardinals are coming into the match after securing their first Southland Conference victory of the season over Lamar, but the team is 0-5 away from home.
The Islanders are coming off a two game conference winning streak and currently sit at second overall in the SLC standings.
This will be the second time this season that the Islanders will travel during conference play and are 2-5 overall on the road this season.
"We feel confident going into this weekend's matches. It's important for us to focus on one match at a time because both teams are going to put up a good fight," said head coach
Helena Besovic. "We've been working on maximizing our strengths and making sure we dictate the game. We are a very fit team this year and our focus is on playing aggressive tennis."
The Cowgirls have won four of their last five matches and sport a 5-1 record at home.
After these matches the Cowgirls will be on the road for three consecutive contests in which they will face Missouri State, Central Arkansas, and Rice.
Following their road stint, the Cowgirls will conclude Southland Conference play with three consecutive home matches.
