LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball returns to the diamond for its fourth straight home game this Wednesday to host South Alabama in a midweek game. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on the McNeese Radio Network (KEZM 1310 AM and McNeeseSports.com). Video stream and live stats will be available on McNeesesports.com as well.
McNeese (22-10), winners of its last five games, is coming off a Southland Conference series sweep over Incarnate Word last weekend that saw the Cowgirls take the opening game 8-0 in six innings. The Cowgirls then picked up the doubleheader victory on Saturday by the scores of 5-4 and 6-5 to complete the sweep.
Junior
Justyce McClain continues to lead the Cowgirls with a .435 batting average, 47 hits, and 30 runs scored and 15 stolen bases. McClain enters the game having reached base in the last 24 games.
Seniors
Erika Piancastelli and
Morgan Catron lead the team with 10 home runs apiece. Piancastelli also leads with 11 doubles and 22 walks and is second with 32 hits and 29 RBI. Catron is coming off a weekend that saw her hit three home runs against Incarnate Word with two coming in the series finale including a walk-off homer that clinched the series sweep. For that, Catron was also named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week. She currently has a .330 average with 30 hits and leads the team with 31 RBI and is second with 17 walks.
Sophomore
Alexsandra Flores is 10-4 on the year with a 2.41 ERA. Flores is coming off two wins against Incarnate Word as well as a save against the Cardinals. She has a team high 49 strikeouts in 81.1 innings.
Freshmen
Caroline Settle Amber Coons and Ashley Koncir have also contributed in the circle. Settle is 6-5 with a 3.59 ERA, 27 strikeouts in 68.1 innings, Coons is 4-1 with a 3.34 ERA, 44 innings and also had 27 strikeouts. Koncir is 2-0 with a 3.64 in 25 innings along with six strikeouts.
South Alabama (17-14) has won three of its last four games and is coming off a Sun Belt home series win over Georgia State last weekend.
Kaleigh Todd leads the Jaguars at the plate with a .337 average, 31 hits and eight stolen bases. Brittani Reid has a .310 average with 27 hits while Kristian Foster leads USA with 17 RBI and Kamdyn Kvistad has a team high three home runs along with 13 RBI.
Devin Brown has done the bulk of the pitching and is 11-8 with a 1.93 ERA in 116 innings with 128 strikeouts. Alexis Reid is 6-6 on the year with a 2.66 ERA and has 57 strikeouts in 89.1 innings.
