Tennis Comes Away With Victory at Neutral Site

Box Score CONWAY, Arkansas – In its first neutral match site of the season the McNeese tennis team defeated non-conference opponent Missouri State 6-1.

The Cowgirls (11-2, 6-1 SLC) came out firing on all cylinders against the Bears (5-7) sweeping the doubles point for an early lead.

In the number two spot Giovanna Fioretti and Marija Mastilovic defeated the Missouri State duo of Anielisse Torrico and Phoebe Boeschen 6-2.

Finishing next in the three spot Phonexay Chitdara and Charoline Erlandsson secured a hard fought 6-4 victory over Fati Khamissi and Alexia Meyer to secure the doubles point for the Cowgirls.

In the number one spot Sarah Jurakova and Hannah Brett defeated their Missouri State couterparts, Alye Darter and Ellie Burger, 6-4.

The Cowgirls would show dominance in their singles victories, winning all five in straight sets.
First to finish, in the number five spot, was Erlandsson. Erlandsson defeated Abbey Belote 6-1 in the first set before sweeping her 6-0 in the second.

In the number four spot Mastilovic defeated the Bear's Khamissi 6-3 and 6-1.

McNeese's Jurakova would continue to add on to her victories in the number two spot. She would sweep Torrico in the first set before securing the team victory by winning the second set 6-2.

Southland Conference Player of the Week Chitdara would secure a 6-0, 6-3 victory to remain perfect in singles play this season.

Brett secured the sixth point on the day for the Cowgirls at the number three spot. She would defeat her Bear counterpart Boeschen in two hard fought sets 6-4 and 6-3.

Finishing last in the number one spot was McNeese's Fioretti and Missouri State's Darter.Darter swept Fioretti in the first set 6-0 before dropping the second set to Fiorettit, 4-6. In the final set of the day the two would fight with everything they had before Darter took the set 10-8 to give the Bears their only point of the day.

"I'm pleased with the way we played today against Missouri State. They are a talented team," said head coach Helena Besovic. "It was important for us to execute our game well and stay focused throughout the match."

The Cowgirls have now won five in a row and look to carry the momentum into Saturday's match-up in which they will face Southland Conference opponent Central Arkansas at 11 a.m.
