FORT WORTH – The defending Southland Conference Champion, and Southland Conference Tournament Champions, McNeese tennis squad will open up its 2019 season on Saturday at TCU.
First serve is set for 10 a.m. at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center and Bartzen Varsity Courts in Fort Worth.
Matches are scheduled to played outside, but with freezing temperatures possible on Saturday, the match may be moved inside.
Returning for the Cowgirls this year are seniors Giovanna Fioretti and Charoline Erlandsson; Juniors Stella Carra and Marija Mastilovic; and Sophomore Sofia San Jose Moreno.
In the fall semester freshman Charlotte Ziegler joined the squad while freshmen Dalia Ahmed and Carlotta Romito arrived on campus in early January.
Fioretti returns after a 2018 campaign that saw her play all of her matches at line one. Fioretti was crucial in SLC tournament play going 3-0 in doubles play with Mastilovic, and 1-0 in singles competition. In her lone singles victory she defeated the SLC player of the year and secured the match point to lift McNeese to its first ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
Erlandsson will begin her senior campaign after playing at line five in 2018. In 2018 Erlandsson compiled a singles record of 15-6 and 17-4 in doubles action. In conference tournament action, Erlandsson posted a perfect weekend by finishing 3-0 in both doubles and singles action.
Mastilovic also finished the 2018 SLC tournament perfect, posting a 3-0 doubles record and going 2-0 in singles play. In 2018 she posted an overall singles record of 13-7 and a doubles record of 13-3.
Carra and Moreno saw limited action during the Cowgirls 2018 season, but gained experience during the Cowgirls 2018 Fall campaign, along with Ziegler.
