Box Score MOBILE, Alabama – The McNeese tennis squad battled fiercely in a contest that saw them fall just short of South Alabama 4-3 on Sunday.

McNeese (0-3) is still looking for its first win of the season after dropping weekend matches to Tulane and South Alabama.

In doubles action, South Alabama secured the doubles point with wins at lines No. 1 and No. 2.

Finishing first at the No. 3 position. Cowgirls Giovanna Fioretti and Dalia Ahmed swept their South Alabama counterparts of Alexandria Stiteler and Nikola Kohoutova 6-0 to take the 1-0 doubles lead for the Cowgirls.

At line No. 2, the Jaguar duo of Yurie Takanishi and Yu Fujioka blanked McNeese's Sofia San Jose Moreno and Charoline Erlandsson 6-0 to even things up at one point apiece.

With the doubles point on the line, McNeese's Carlotta Romito and Marija Mastilovic dropped their set to Milka Pasanen and Patricia Martins 6-1.

In singles action on court No. 2, Erlandsson made quick work of Stiteler. The Cowgirl defeated her opponent in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to tie the match up at one point each. With the victory Erlandsson is 3-0 on the year in singles play.

On court No. 6, South Alabama's Martins defeated Carra in a straight set affair, 6-0, 6-2.

Mastilovic would be the next Cowgirl to finish and would even the match back up with 6-3, 6-1 victory over Takanishi.

At line No. 4, USA'a Kohoutova defeated Moreno in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.

McNeese freshman Romito would look to even things up on court No. 5 against Pasanen. Romito would drop her first set 3-6 before taking the second set 7-5. In the final set Romito gained the upper hand and defeated her Jaguar counterpart 6-4 to secure the point and even the match at three points each.

At line No. 1, Fioretti and Stiteler split the first two sets. Stiteler took the first 7-5 before Fioretti stormed back for a 6-1 second set victory. In the third set Stiteler would get the best of Fioretti and win the set 7-5 along with the match for South Alabama.
