LAKE CHARLES—McNeese volleyball fell in straight sets (21-25, 16-25, 24-26) to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a Southland Conference match Thursday night in the first of the final four home matches for the Cowgirls this season.
McNeese (9-14, 2-9 SLC) was led in kills by
Keegan Nelms who ended the match with eight.
Angela McGownd led all players with 16 digs while Nelms picked up 12.
The Islanders improved to 15-9 overall and 8-3 in the SLC with the win. Rachel Young led TAMU-CC with eight kills while Carissa Barnes led the team with 15 digs.
TAMU-CC hit over .300 in the first two sets while the Cowgirls hit under .200 in those sets. McNeese trailed 23-20 in the final set and managed to even the set at 24 all. An Islander service error and a block solo by
Lauren Burt brought McNeese to within one point at 23-22. Following a kill by TAMU-CC gave them a 24-22 lead, McNeese tied the set on back-to-back
Macee Krpec kills to even it up at 24. An Islander kill then a Cowgirl error gave Texas A&M-Corpus Christi the set and the match.
McNeese will remain home to host Incarnate Word at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
