LAKE CHARLES— McNeese volleyball picked up 17 blocks on its way to a five set (22-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-22, 15-8) Southland Conference win over Incarnate Word here Saturday.
The win lifted the Cowgirls record to 10-14 overall and 3-9 in the league while to loss dropped UIW to 9-15 overall and 2-10 in the SLC.
UIW opened the match with a first set 25-22 win before the Cowgirls evened the match with a 25-18 second set win. The Cardinals took a 2-1 advantage with a third set 25-22 win, but the Cowgirls came back to take set four, 25-22 to force a fifth set.
McNeese opened the fifth set by taking a 3-0 lead and then a 6-1 lead behind kills from
Macee Krpec,
Lauren Burt, and
Keegan Nelms.
Two more kills by Lambert put the Cowgirls up 12-4 then UIW scored three straight points to trail 13-8 before a Nelms kill put McNeese to within one point of winning the match. A UIW error on the next serve ended the set and the match.
Three Cowgirls recorded double figure kills with Lambert leading the way with 17. Nelms ended the match with another double double (13 kills, 14 digs) and Krpec put down 11 kills.
As a team, the Cowgirls picked up 70 digs and were led by
Angela McGownd with 24. Burt led the defense with 10 blocks while Krpec picked up nine.
