Keegan Nelms led McNeese volleyball with her 11
th double-double of the season (18 kills, 10 digs) and
Alexis Lambert and
Regan Stiawalt chipped in with 13 and 10 kills, respectively in a 3-1 (20-25, 26-24, 12-25, 22-25) Southland Conference loss to Southeastern Louisiana Thursday night at the H&HP Complex.
The loss drops McNeese to 10-15 overall and 3-10 in the SLC while SE La. improved to 13-14 overall and 7-6 in the SLC.
SE La. opened the match up by taking a 15-9 lead, but the Cowgirls fought their way back to cut the lead to three (18-15) on a
Lauren Burt kill. A 4-0 run by the Lions upped their lead to 22-15 and then the Cowgirls held off two set points on back to back kills by Lambert before Caroline Golden's kill gave SE La. the first set win.
McNeese evened the match by winning the second set in a come from behind fashion. Trailing 21-16, McNeese took advantage of two Lion errors and a Nelms kill to pull to within two points, 21-19. Following a Lion kill, Nelms put down two kills and then teamed up with Burt for a block to even the set at 22 apiece.
The teams traded points before SE La. took the lead again at 24-23 on another Golden kill. Nelms tied it up again at 24 with a kill before SE La. committed two errors to give McNeese the second set win.
SE La. controlled the third set from the onset and went on several scoring runs including two scoring runs that scored four straight points and a five-point scoring run late in the set that gave them a 23-9 lead before they closed out the set on a kill by Golden.
McNeese let a 20-17 lead slip away in the fourth set when SE La. scored three straight points including two off Cowgirl errors to even the set at 20 apiece.
Nelms would tie the set at 22 all on her 18
th kill of the night but SE La. went on to score the last three points of the set to win it 25-22 and the overall match.
Golden led all players with a match high 21 kills while Karlee Wilkerson ended her night with 10 kills.
McNeese will host Nicholls in its home finale at 11:30 a.m. this Saturday. Seniors
