LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball dropped both games here Friday on day two of the Cowgirl Classic, falling 4-2 to Samford and 6-0 to #14 Arkansas.
McNeese (1-2) will face Campbell at 5:30 p.m. and Lipscomb at 8 p.m. Saturday before concluding tournament action with another game against Lipscomb at 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
The Cowgirls took an early 2-0 lead over the Bulldogs in the third inning on a two RBI homerun sophomore
Demi Boudreaux. The long ball is Boudreaux's first of her career.
Samford came back in the fourth with three straight extra base hits- a leadoff triple and back-to back doubles that pushed three runs across the plate for a 3-2 lead. Samford added another run in the fifth on a RBI single by Whitney Hinton for a 4-0 lead.
After the Cowgirls went down in order in the fifth and sixth inning, pinch hitter
Brenique Wright led the bottom half of the seventh off with a single up the middle. After a line drive out by Tonie Perrin,
Justyce McClain drew a walk to put Taylor Strother in scoring position. A fielder's choice ground out to third got Strother out at third then Boudreaux grounded out to second base to end the Cowgirl threat and the game.
In the nightcap, McNeese was held to one hit off Arkansas Mary Haff, that hit being a double by freshman
Sara Geier in the fifth inning.
Arkansas scored a single run in the fourth then tacked on five more in the fifth including a three-run homerun by Hannah McEwen for the 6-0 lead.
Caroline Settle (0-1) took the loss for the Cowgirls against Samford and
Alexsandra Flores (1-1) was the losing pitcher against Arkansas.
