Nice start for McNeese at Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE – McNeese track and field collected three first place finishes on day one of the ULL Louisiana Classics here Friday afternoon, two active athletes and one who competed unattached and is taking a redshirt this season.
 
Tyler Smith won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.31, beating out teammate Tyler Syrie who finished second with a 21.60.
 
On the women's side, thrower Alanna Arvie won the hammer event for the second straight week as she measured 174-feet, 11-inches as she won by more than two feet.
 
Javelin thrower Morgan Woods, who competed unattached while taking a redshirt this outdoor season, won the women's javelin event with a mark of 146-10.
 
The meet will conclude on Saturday.
 
Also on Saturday, McNeese will host the annual Cowboy Relays Middle School meet at the Lena and Bill Henning Track and Field Complex.
 
The event is expected to attract more than 300 youngsters and will begin at 9 a.m. with field events and noon with the running.
