SB: Cowgirls Look To Bounce Back At Houston Baptist This Weekend

LAKE CHARELS—McNeese softball will make a return trip to Houston, Texas this weekend for a Southland Conference series at Houston Baptist following a 3-2, nine inning loss at the University of Houston Wednesday night.

McNeese (15-19, 6-3 SLC) will look bounce back following back-to-back extra inning losses including an eight-inning home loss against NW State in the final game of the series last weekend.
 
Senior Justyce McClain and junior Cori McCrary continue to lead McNeese with a .396 and a .317 batting average, respectively. McClain also leads the Cowgirls with 42 hits, 22 runs scored and has 15 stolen bases.
 
McCrary leads the team with 17 RBI, 16 stolen bases and is second on the team with 33 hits and 17 runs scored. McCrary and Brenique Wright are both tied for the team high with three homeruns. Wright picked up her third long ball of the season against Houston on Wednesday with a two-run home run in the second inning for a 2-1 McNeese lead.
 
The pitching staff will carry a 2.78 ERA into the weekend and is led by freshman Saleen Flores' 1.47 ERA. Amber Coons has a 1.73 ERA while Settle has a 3.23, Alexsandra Flores has a 3.68 ERA and Ashley Koncir has a 5.25 ERA in only 9 1/3 innings.
 
As a team, McNeese will enter the weekend ranked third in the SLC with a .294 batting average, and second in ERA (2.03) in conference games.
 
McClain is tied for second in the league with 12 hits and McCrary is tied for third with 11 hits in conference games.
 
Saleen Flores is currently third in the SLC with a 1.17 ERA and Alexsandra Flores ranks fourth with a 1.31 ERA in conference games.
 
Houston Baptist (13-12, 3-6 SLC) are coming off a SLC series road loss at Stephen F. Austin last weekend. The Huskies opened SLC play with a series sweep at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi then took the opening game of the Southeastern La. series.
 
HBU is led by Sierra Humphreys (.361) and Brooke Bushman (.338) at the plate. The Huskies have utilized three pitchers- Jessica Patak (4-7), Emma Guindon (5-3), and Elliot Estes (4-2).
